Repeat Customers, or With Multiple Units
We had a great experience with AppleWood Self Storage storing our "summer car" this past winter. The storage units are maintained immaculately. Dave, the owner is extremely responsive, always getting back to you literally within minutes of an email or phone call. He is by no means an absentee landlord ... obviously spends a lot of time around his properties. The terms of the rental were very clearly explained, and the owner provided free advice as to how to store our car vermin- and bug-free over the winter.

In meeting with Dave it is readily apparent he cares about his customer's safety. In addition to pristine facilities, up front he tells us about his safety and prevention measures all designed so that we won't be bothered by others when out at the facility. He is particular in who he rents to and has an active Police K9 dog training program to offer the facilities as training locations for the K9's. I have used AppleWood Self Storage several times to store items in the past few years, and I have always been pleased with the quality and cleanliness of the units. The property is well light and secure and is in close proximity to my home which is very convenient. Traveling Overseas, Out of State
Setting up a storage garage was quick and easy with David. We felt safe leaving our valuables there while we were traveling in India for eight months. Payment was super easy because we were able to set up automatic payments with CC. I would highly recommend AppleWood Self Storage facility!

Highly recommended storage facilities. When my wife was looking at storage units on the east side of Madison, she would come home after inspecting various facilities with stories of how laughably bad some places were. She was shown units with standing water, inoperable or un-lockable doors, dingy locations, musty and damp units and indifferent managers. As soon as she met Dave and saw the AppleWood Self Storage facilities, she knew straight away she had found the best place for our goods while we were overseas. Dave is a pleasure to work with and gave us some good advice both in person and via the AppleWood Self Storage website (the Irish Spring bars really do keep spider webs away). As almost all our belonging were going to be stored for over a year, a dry facility was imperative to us, so we were glad to see that there has obviously been some serious thought put into the landscaping and layout of the facility, as you can see that even in the heaviest summer rain storm, any water run-off will be channeled away from the units. As well as being dry, the units are very clean and secure. Again, highly recommended!

I've had storage at AppleWood Self Storage for about 7 months now while I was out of the country for work. Its' been great in that I never felt I had to worry about security, cleanliness, or access to my belongings if needed. Dave is responsive and genuinely cares that you're having a good experience. It is more expensive than other places in town, which is an unfortunate side effect of having such a nice place. If you can afford the steep prices, then its' likely worth the peace of mind.

K9 Training Program Fans
I met Mr. Wood over 3 years ago when he saw me out training my search & rescue dog near one of his facilities. He introduced himself, explained his mission regarding safety, and invited my SAR team to train at his facilities (and personal property) as we needed/wanted. His motto is "Safety is our #1 Goal," and he stands by that motto by inviting search & rescue and police personnel to train at his storage sites.
Our SAR team has used his properties countless times for training. In addition to my SAR team, he has a similar relationship with Madison Police Dept. K9 unit. His storage units are state of the art, clean, and well run. The inside of empty storage which we also use for training have been spotlessly clean. The grounds are extremely well-kept, and Mr. Wood is frequently at the property as a resource. In addition, he's been an advocate and partner for increasing safety in the community.
While at the facility, I have met very friendly storage unit renters and staff. There has never been a questionable person or interaction in all the times we have trained at the two facilities. The facilities are well organized, well maintained, and the environment is very safe.

We found AppleWood Self Storage online. Then we drove by the place Saturday morning and found it cleaner than the photos. While there, we watched a K-9 training session going on with 5 dog teams…pretty cool! We learned that they train their periodically as part of a public service and safety prevention measure. The dogs were cute too. Certainly nice to see a proactive owner. We called the owner and he met us on Sunday to rent a unit!

I rented storage space at this facility over the phone from another state. Spoke to the owner who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and who went out of the way to assist me with storage needs for my college student. The facility was clean, well maintained and easy to access. The process of getting the keys to my daughter (even though I am in another state) was surprisingly easy. I highly recommend this facility to anyone in the Madison area with storage needs.

Sep. 5, 2013 - We rented a garage sized unit at the Dairy Drive location. David should get 10 stars and is great. The units are clean and virtually brand new. Security is abundant with cameras everywhere and the place is lit up like the 4th of July. The units are available 24 hours; his office hours are limited. This might confuse some. The units have their own locks and keys. The price is reasonable. We used the unit for storage during the transition of moving from one apartment to another for my daughter attending the UW in Madison. It appears somewhat far by looking at a map but it's actually quite close, about 10 minutes from the campus. Dave is great! He tends to over communicate by email but that's a good thing. It helps drill in what needs to be done before, during, and after the move. He's somewhat involved with the local police and fire services and takes the time to answer any and all questions. He spells it out for you in black and white so you know exactly where you stand. I'd use this place again. Safe, secure and peace of mind!

I needed a unit for my apartment furniture as I was living out of state for the summer. It ended up being a perfect experience in all regards. Over the summer I lost (and subsequently cancelled) my credit card that was on file with AppleWood Self Storage and forgot to notify them. Needless to say when they went to charge me for the month, it came up declined. Instead of charging me for a late fee immediately, Dave (the owner) both called and emailed to notify me of the situation. I was able to give him the information for a different card. Coincidentally the card I gave him expired two months later and the process repeated itself, once again Dave notified me and gave me the opportunity to avoid the late fee. All in all just excellent customer service, I was completely at fault for both scenarios and both times I was able to avoid the late fee. I could not give a higher recommendation for AppleWood Self Storage. The owner is friendly and easy to get ahold of, the units are well maintained, clean and safe. Look no further for a place to store.

The facility is clean, extremely secure, and excellently managed. I rented from 2009-2014, and Dave and his family are both professional and personal. If I have need of storage in the future, I would do business with them again. I cannot say enough about what an outstanding operation this business runs. I had three times contacted the owner, Dave, after I had three different potential move in dates based upon when my house was to close. After several deals fell through, I called Dave to ask for his help and to put down another deposit on another unit. Dave insisted he would not take my money until I was sure that the house sale would go through this time, and he did not want me to lose a security deposit. The units are very clean, safe, and the environment is very customer friendly. I had no reservations about visiting this facility on my own. I cannot say enough about this business and it is by far the best choice you can make for your storage needs.

Some of the storage facilities around Madison are truly awful, so I was very relieved to find AppleWood Self Storage after a long hunt. We rented a 5x10 storage unit for about a year and a half, then moved out without any trouble. I had a previous storage locker, so when I came to AppleWood Self Storage I had low expectations. However, I was very impressed with how easy to work with Dave was, he listened to specifically what I was looking for, set up a time to meet that worked with my schedule and his, and I was able to get an exact locker within certain requirements for my profession. Dave even met with me several extra times to make sure his facility was up to code with the parameters of what my company was looking for.
The temperature controlled units are safe, outdoor-lock, and indoor-individual lock that I only have the key to, so it made me feel safe knowing the contents of my locker would be in the right temperature, in a clean environment and that I could always contact the owner with any questions. I would recommend AppleWood Self Storage, they do a great job and take pride in taking care of you and your storage.

AppleWood Self Storage was the most convenient, clean, friendly and safe places for self storage in Madison. When I was moving my plans changed and I needed storage as soon as possible but I wasn't willing to compromise the safety of my belongings. I searched online and called around. After reading about them on their website I decided to call and once I spoke with AppleWood Self Storage I knew I had found the right place.
