Safety Education & Resources –
Safety Is Our #1 Goal™

"Safety Is Our #1 Goal"! Our perspective on safety goes beyond just the self-storage facility. Working with Madison police and fire department staff, we have authored a variety of safety messages involving safety around the home, as you travel and health information and for your student while they are away from home, at college for the first time.

Safety Resources for You and Those You Care About

Please feel free to share any of these safety messages with those you care dearly about.

College Student "Prevention Through Education & Personal Responsibility" Program

As owners of UW campus rental properties, we have always been concerned with student safety and how sometimes either lack of education or not using common sense can place residents in an unsafe situation. When touring our rental properties, we find too often that building security or fire protection measures have been disarmed or tampered with, so they don’t provide the safety protection intended.

Working directly with the Madison police and fire departments (see press release), we have developed a communication piece that focuses on building security, personal safety and fire safety. Our program involves the posting of a bright safety yellow and red 11’x17’ laminate poster in the common areas of the buildings. Then during the lease signing, we go over the safety flyer with the residents and also provide a copy. The intent is to educate and ask for their personal responsibility. We feel that the best prevention is through education, requesting personal responsibility, so that hopefully we can avoid a harmful situation. For parents with a college student, our "Student Safety Flyer" is a must-read for them and their roommates! It focuses on safe living practices in their apartment, fire safety and personal safety tips.

Health & Family Resources

Hands-Only CPR Video
Ironically, just a few weeks ago I and other individual were able to perform CPR and save a life. What stunned me was that 20ish people stood over the non-responsive person, offering no assistance either out of fear, lack of knowledge…? With the sole goal of educating as many people as possible, courtesy of the American Heart Association is the video above. Learn the two simple steps of Hands-Only CPR if you witness a teen or adult suddenly collapse: Call 9-1-1 and Push Hard and Fast in the Center of the Chest until Help Arrives. Please share the video of this family dinner scene turned disco party as they dance to Street Corner Symphony’s a cappella version of “Stayin’ Alive”, which has the same beats per minute as the ideal rate of chest compressions during CPR. Please like and share this important lifesaving video with your family and friends.

A Place For Mom Senior Housing Resources
A Place for Mom was founded more than 14 years ago to help families navigate the maze of senior housing options. Since then, A Place for Mom has grown to become the largest senior living referral service in the U.S. and Canada. Although their company name focuses on "Mom," they help Dad too! As well as uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters – anyone who is faced with finding the best senior living options for their loved ones.

Agrace Hospice and Palliative Care Resources
Since 1978, Agrace has been a nonprofit, community-based health care agency dedicated to providing expert physical, emotional and spiritual support to patients and families dealing with advanced illness. Agrace is nationally recognized for its comprehensive in-home, inpatient, respite and residential care, and the hospice services Agrace Hospice Care provides in skilled nursing and assisted living facilities throughout south central Wisconsin. With offices in Madison and Janesville, Agrace serves more than 650 patients each day throughout south-central Wisconsin.

Child Safety Seat Resources
Some three out of four child safety seats are not used correctly. The correct installation of child safety seats is often very confusing to parents, grandparents and caregivers. Changing technology in vehicles and child safety seats adds to this confusion. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation offers education, training and other resources on child passenger safety for the general public, health and law enforcement agencies.

Moving Resources

To assist you in your actual move, we have created a Moving Box Label Kit and Moving Inventory Worksheet for your use. Also to assist you in getting your home ready for sale and your move into our self-storage units, we have provided these informational flyers. Whether you rent from us or not, please feel free to print off a copy any of these resources. We hope they will make your move easier!
